Position Title: Clinical Mentor/Nurse
Reports To: Nursing Manager
Location: Liberia

PIH partners with local governments to build local capacity and works closely with impoverished communities to deliver high-quality health care, address the root causes of illness, train providers, advance research, and advocate for global policy change.
PIH currently has implementation programs in Haiti, Rwanda, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Peru, Mexico, Russia, Sierra Leone and Navajo Nation. Through our partnership with Harvard Medical School and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, we support a wide range of programs in dozens of other countries around the world.
Position Overview:
The Clinical Mentor/Nurse provides technical advice to PIH field teams in Liberia and to the clinical leadership of PIH. This individual will support the organization’s health programs at the behest of the PIH site leadership and in coordination with the office of the CMO.
Specific Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Clinical Mentor/Nurse may include work in the following areas:

I. Leadership, clinical support and guidance

  • Support in-county clinical and program teams to facilitate the development and execution of clinical work plans.
  • Advise PIH clinical leadership and in-county teams around activities, including support for program implementation.
  • Communicate regularly with PIH clinical leadership and participate in initiatives.
  • Develop clinical guidelines, treatment protocols, and standard operating procedures for use by clinical teams in county of assignment.
  • Facilitate effective communication between content experts and relevant field-based leaders.

II. Expert technical analysis

  • Support sites in identifying gaps in care, and assist them with addressing those gaps.
  • Develop reports or briefs on relevant information, and make recommendations for action.
  • Advise on development of short and long-term plans to deliver high quality clinical services that incorporate up to date technology and science in the field.

III. Training and professional development

  • Keep abreast of the current literature and familiarity with county trends, programs, initiatives and projects relevant to healthcare delivery system.
  • Synthesize information and make recommendations to clinical team in area of assignment.
  • Participate in interagency working groups and professional meetings as appropriate.
  • Serve as a resource for other clinicians working with PIH.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in public health/Nursing or a related discipline.
  • Minimum three years’ work experience in international health programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in clinical care in Liberia.
  • Knowledge of relevant public health principles, concepts, methods, and techniques.
  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and team building skills.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and disseminate data.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as needed.
