Position Title: Accounting Manager

Reports to: Director of Finance & Accounting

Location: Boston, MA

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager is responsible for all of the activities related to accounting processes and procedures and audit support in Boston. As a critical member of the finance team, the Accounting Manager will directly manage a team of three accountants, help to oversee the domestic and international accounting work of a pool of analysts, and also work to develop a global team of accounting professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Boston accounting team and help to mentor the global accounting team (close to 100 professionals globally) in the developing, implementing, and training of best practices and proper control procedures.
  • Manage the day-to-day accounting functions of the Boston office including directly managing three accountants in Boston as well as overseeing the accounting work of a pool of analysts.
  • Develop and oversee accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to meet both current and future business models, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a system of internal controls and safeguards including, but not limited to, areas of cash control, revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Oversee monthly and annual closing processes.
  • Lead the preparation of annual financial statements and annual Form 990 for IRS reporting.
  • Ensure annual audits are performed in accordance with OMB Uniform Grant Guidance, GAAP, and/or other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of PIH's financial status.
  • Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working with leadership to assess global cash requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of materials for the Board of Directors and Audit Committee.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited college or university.
  • Certified Public Accounting designation (CPA) strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory level experience and demonstrated ability to lead across a range of cultures, personalities, and competencies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of advanced US not-for-profit GAAP, financial reporting, accounting systems and accounting software is required.
  • A demonstrated commitment to recruiting, mentoring, and training a diverse team.
  • Experience managing audit activities, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and cash management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, Board or other outside partners.
