Position Title: MDR-TB Physician/Maryland Clinical Manager

General Responsibilities:
The Maryland Clinical manager is responsible for managing and overseeing all PIH clinical programs in Maryland County as well as clinical duties in the MDR-TB/infectious disease ward at JJ Dossen Hospital. The Maryland Clinical manager will work closely with their MoH counterparts including the Medical Director at JJ Dossen Hospital, the Clinical Health Officer, and the Maryland Community Health Team. This position will oversee and lead the development of the Maryland clinical strategic plans, streamline staffing and HR challenges, and work to improve the overall quality of care at JJ Dossen and other PIH supported health facilities in Maryland County.
This position will be filled by a clinician who has strong clinical and managerial skills. This clinician will also provide direct patient care, lead quality improvement projects and will oversee the clinical, pharmaceutical, laboratory, and medical consumable supply chain and procurement efforts with assistance from the PIH Clinical Operations team and the Ministry of Health.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee all PIH Clinical programs and departments in Maryland County
- Lead strategic planning for Maryland County clinical programs in collaboration with the Ministry of Health
- Work closely with the Medical Director of JJ Dossen and the County Health Officer to deliver high-quality, compassionate health care.
- Manage and mentor PIH clinical staff in Maryland County
- Work with pharmacy, laboratory, and supply chain teams to prevent stock outs of essential medications, laboratory, and medical equipment
- Attend daily ward rounds on the MDR-TB Ward at JJ Dossen Hospital
- Provide clinical care at the MDR-TB outpatient clinic at JJ Dossen
- Ensure good pharmacovigilance is observed/followed by encouraging providers to fill out Serious Adverse Events form
- Provide mentorship for clinicians who provide inpatient and outpatient care for MDR-TB patients
- Ensure MDR-TB patients who have defaulted or loss to follow are re-enrolled into clinical care
- Represent PIH interests and leadership at both local county meetings and at strategic clinical meetings in Monrovia
- Support any PIH-approved research, quality improvement, and monitoring & evaluation projects occurring in Maryland County.
Qualifications:
- MD degree or equivalent degree required
- Masters degree in hospital management or health systems management is preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of previous work experience in low-resource setting
- Personnel management and teaching experience is recommended
- Ability to mentor and manage individuals with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds
- Strong written and spoken English skills and ability to communicate clearly with a variety of stakeholders
- Sufficient computer skills to prepare written reports and manage databases for supply chain management and other administrative tasks
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
