Position Title: Development Communications Writer
Reports to: Editorial Director
Location: Boston
Position Overview
The development communications writer is tasked with conceptualizing and producing written materials primarily within an enterprise-level program of donor engagement, cultivation, and stewardship communications. As a member of the communications team and with guidance from the editorial director, the writer works closely with development, program, finance, and monitoring and evaluation staff to ensure that all materials reflect accurate and timely information about PIH and its undertakings, and that the organization’s activities—often highly technical in nature—remain married to its larger mission within a compelling and consistent narrative arc.
Responsibilities
- Supports individual giving, community giving, and communications team activities and goals by gathering content and drafting original copy for proposals, reports, acknowledgments, newsletters, appeals, and marketing collateral
- With the monitoring evaluation and quality improvement (MEQ) team, helps identify and satisfy data needs for development communications projects
- Distributes content as needed within PIH and ensures consistency of messaging and presentation across communication streams
- Assists with the build-out and maintenance of internal knowledge management systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 3 years of related writing experience
- Excellent command of the English language, with superlative writing and editing skills
- Demonstrated experience writing successful funding, marketing, or technical proposals and compelling reports
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple deadlines and time-intensive writing processes
- Experience partnering with visual communications professionals
- Strong computer skills, including fluency in Office and literacy in Creative Cloud
- Exemplary interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments and countries
- Interest in social justice strongly desirable
