Position Overview:
PIH is currently seeking a highly motivated and flexible individual to provide daily management and oversight of its project, “Safe and Quality Services Mentoring in health clinics and health centers in Maryland and Grand Kru Counties.” Candidates must have excellent planning, management, writing, analytical, communication and cultural sensitivity skills as they will be working closely with county health teams, donors, and partners involved in the project. The candidate must have a passion for results and a commitment to excellence.

The Project Manager will be responsible for managing a 12-month project designed to reinforce the quality of health care services provided in primary care facilities in 2 rural counties of the Southeast of Liberia—Maryland and Grand Kru —as they work to restore and strengthen access to health services in the aftermath of the Ebola outbreak. The project manager will work hand-in-hand with PIH nurse managers and operations managers to establish a team to support the delivery of the Ministry of Health’s clinical mentoring package for safe and quality health services, as a follow up to the national training of all health facility staff conducted over the past months. S/He will work closely with the PIH grant manager and M&E officer for the project to ensure timely reporting of all project activities. The project manager will drive project success and management by coordinating efforts of the PIH Liberia team to manage project deliverables according to established plans.

General Responsibilities:

  • Work with the project staff, donor partners, and the county health teams to define project scope, goals and deliverables, as well as monthly priorities and key tasks.
  • Track and manage project milestones and deliverables, ensuring that goals are met and deliverables are provided on time.
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and senior management.
  • Effectively communicate external factors that may have consequence for the team, and translate that information into action steps.
  • Set and continually manage project expectations with technical team members.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises and devise contingency plans.
  • Ensure streamlined knowledge management by managing, maintaining and developing a system to share information so that it is readily accessible.
  • Ensure team communication and support of team members for necessary deliverables.
  • Collaborate across the team to create and present timelines and Gantt charts for key initiatives to facilitate planning and decision making.
  • Conduct monthly meetings with Master Coaches and nurse mentors to review progress and challenges.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent plus 5 years management experience; or Advanced Degree plus 3 years management experience.
  • Experience managing clinical mentoring projects in low resource settings a plus.
  • Technical expertise in public health strongly desired.
  • Proven experience managing and leading teams to deliver high-impact results.
  • Experience supporting high-level stakeholders.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Exceptional strategy development skills.
  • Ability to work in unstructured and fast-paced work environments.
  • Exceptional general management and communication (written and oral) skills in English, including the ability to communicate effectively with people of varied professional and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to be effective in high-pressure situations, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities and manage/support staff through process.
  • Ability to work with humility and achieve results.
  • Proven ability to diffuse high stress situations.
  • Prior experience working in rural Liberia a plus.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Ability to live in Liberia full-time require.
